Hear from Prothena’s Ria Palarca and Nhu Truong on women’s equality at Prothena
Tomorrow, August 26, marks Women’s Equality Day, but each day we are proud of the women who work to advance science and truly impact patient lives. We recently had the chance to hear from Ria Palarca and Nhu Truong on the importance of equal opportunity and a supportive workplace. Check out their perspectives below.
Q: When you think about Prothena’s culture, how do you feel women are supported?
A: “Having been part of the Prothena family for over a decade, we embrace a culture of equity and inclusion stemming from our values. Women are supported when taking risks, are allowed to challenge different ways of thinking, and are encouraged to find a different approach by trying new ideas. In the end, what is most important is our common goal, which is to advance our science for our patients and their families.” -Ria
Q: What advice would you give Prothena as the company continues to advance, support, and celebrate women’s equality?
A: “The younger generation is watching. Let’s continue to strive and be an advocate and a champion of talent. It’s imperative to hire women early in their careers and support them in their growth and success. I would also encourage women in senior roles, especially those who actively participate in various organizations, to help mentor and inspire those before them.” -Ria
Q: What would you tell women/girls who want to pursue a career in science/biotech/pharma?
A: “Women are incredibly resilient. It is up to you and only you to define your path and to keep moving forward. I’d also like to share the following poem by Rupi Kaur that inspires me to do better for the next generation of women.” -Nhu
